…I've learned that the outlet from the lagoon to the sea is normally kept closed, for apparently inexplicable reasons, which explains why the level of the lagoon fluctuates so oddly. It seems that when it reaches flood level and becomes necessary to wade from one island to the other they finally open the channel and the water level drops 3 or 4 feet in one day…
