BUDDHIST ORDER

A 27 year-old American traveler, Mr. Robert E. Smith, will be ordained today (Sunday) as a Buddhist samanera (novice) by Ven. Dharmapala, Vihar Secretary of Dharmankur at 1, Buddhist Temple St., Calcutta. The ceremony will be held at about 6:30 PM.

Mr, Smith of Detroit (Michigan State), U.S.A., left his homeland about four years ago. Since then he has lived in Europe and the Middle East.

Wishing to explore the land of many religions, he began his India-bound journey early this year, traveling through 'Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, and West Pakistan before entering India via the Ferozepur check-point in August. He came to Calcutta two weeks ago.
